Reconstructive surgery

Plastic-reconstructive surgery includes the restoration of the body’s shape and function after accidents, diseases (tumours) or congenital malformations. Examples for this are the reconstruction of the female breast after cancer, the restoration of facial features following an accident or the treatment of burn injuries. These are medically indicated treatments and their costs are covered by health insurance.

Hand surgery can also be considered a part of plastic-reconstructive surgery, which also uses microsurgical techniques.
